Why You Shouldn't Use Your Industrial Boiler Room For Storage

Posted on

In your industrial building, you might have a large boiler room that is used for storing your boiler. There might be a little bit of extra space in the boiler room, and it might seem like the perfect place to store supplies for your business. However, boiler rooms should just be used for boilers. They should not be used for storing things. The key reasons why you shouldn't use your industrial boiler room for storage have been listed here.

It's Dangerous to Store Flammable Items

For one thing, it is imperative not to store flammable items, such as chemicals, in your industrial boiler room. Otherwise, there could be a major fire risk that could put everyone's safety in jeopardy and could cause catastrophic damage. Even though it might seem easy to remember not to store flammable items in this area of the building, once you and your employees get in the habit of using this area of the building for storage-related purposes, there is a greater chance that flammable items might end up where they don't belong.

It Makes Proper Circulation More Difficult

Your industrial boiler has to be able to circulate air well. Two things that can prevent this, other than problems with the boiler itself, is having a big enough boiler room and keeping the boiler room clean. If you have a lot of "stuff" in the boiler room, it's going to cause problems with air circulation. Keeping the boiler room mostly empty and very neat and tidy will help prevent circulation issues that could otherwise lead to problems with the boiler or even the production of carbon monoxide.

It Makes Maintenance and Repairs More Difficult

A hardworking industrial boiler has to be well-maintained and properly repaired. Maintenance and repairs can become a lot more difficult if you have a cluttered boiler room. You don't want for your maintenance team to have to move a lot of different items out of the way before they can take care of an emergency repair, for example, and you don't want your team to put off taking care of maintenance because it's hard for them to gain access to your boiler and all of its parts.

Industrial boiler rooms might seem like a good place to store items that you don't really have another dedicated storage space for. However, you'll want to avoid using your industrial boiler room for storage for the reasons that are above. Contact a boiler service, like Schweitzer Roger & Sons, for more help.
